A critical scenario unfolded when the entire website of a travel company abruptly displayed blank pages. This sudden outage not only disrupted their online presence but also incapacitated their ability to accept bookings through their website. The company faced a pressing challenge to restore its web functionality, as its core service of accepting bookings was heavily reliant on its online platform. It soon became apparent the company had been the victim of a cyber attack. The customer contacted {n}.bora for help.
Our solution
As a new customer, we had no prior involvement with the website, but had no time to go through a traditional new-vendor onboarding process. To swiftly address the situation, we undertook the following steps:
Comprehensive Code Examination: We meticulously reviewed the website's code to understand the extent of the changes introduced by the attackers. Understanding the alterations was essential to formulating an effective strategy for restoration.
Precise Reversion Process: Armed with a clear understanding of the code changes, we systematically reverted the malicious alterations, restoring the website's code to its original state.
Priority Restoration: Given the urgency of the situation, we sped up the restoration process, prioritising the recovery of the website's booking functionality. This was of utmost importance to the taxi company, as their ability to serve customers hinged on online bookings.
Future Prevention: We identified the security gaps that allowed the attack to take place and shut them down, whilst bolstering the defence capabilities of the website's underlying platform.
